TREND ONE
California Dreaming
It must be all the zesty tie dye and those endless wetsuits that eased down the Spring/ Summer ’19 runways with surfing–inspired collections (AKA “beach couture”) that resonated with designers. We see upcycled neoprene wetsuits transformed into statement–making gowns, swimwear layered within ready–to–wear, athleisure, crochet overlays over fitted jersey styles, and loose, beachy separates. Neon colors mix and match; colorful and Hawaiian–retro prints and motifs say a sophisticated ‘aloha.’

Fabrics to watch: Neoprene, RepreveTM recycled nylon and polyester jerseys, fleece, french terry, linen, poor boy ribs, and meshes.

TREND TWO
Mix Masters

’80s and ’90s trends continue to bring us back to the future with low–slung drawstring pants, midriff–baring shapes, oversized denim, acid washed jeans, cargos, bucket hats, strong shoulders, colored tailored suits, jumpers, and tracksuits. Sports–inflected styles are back with a sense of utility and assuredness, and traditional colors pop with bright yellows, greens and reds.

Fabrics to watch: Cotton blends, fleece, french terry, piques, tri–blends, ribs, ponti di romas, ottomans and thermals.
